AWLS - Advanced Wilderness Life Support

The Waynesville Parks and Recreation Department is hosting an AWLS - Advanced Wilderness Life Aupport class offered through the University of Utah School of Medicine. AWLS certification is the most important in all of wilderness medicine. AWLS is for all medical professionals including DO/ MD, PA, DDS/DMD, APRN, RN/BSN, EMT, and DPM.
Learners enrolled in this course will learn patient assessment, wound management, hot-cold injuries, avalanche, lightning, water safety, medical problems, dentistry, dermatology, eye problems, bites and stings, infectious disease-diarrhea, wilderness medicine kits, water treatment, altitude, diving medicine, and practical skills.
CEU’s will also be credited.
The course will be taught by David Bradley, He is a resident and native of Western North Carolina. He holds a master’s degree from Clemson University, is a certified strength and conditioning specialist, a certified disaster life support instructor, advanced wilderness life support instructor and a survival instructor. He has instructed physical training, disaster response, wilderness medicine, and survival subjects to a large variety of public safety, health, civilian and military organizations, and personnel. He is also a certified specialty contractor and American Red Cross lifeguarding and water safety instructor trainer.
The class will take place February 18th at the Waynesville Recreation Center from 9:00am – 5:00pm for day one classroom material. Day two will be taught outside.
